DESCRIPTION
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Undergraduate (NEET-UG) formerly known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is the eligible and uniform test for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (BVSC & AH) courses to join in Indian Medical colleges including AIIMS and JIPMER.
The exam is organized by National Testing Agency (NTA) and it is conducted once in a year in the month of between May to September.

ELIGIBILITY
As per related Regulations of NMC and DCI also He/she has completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year Undergraduate Medical Course. if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage at the time of first round of Counselling.
Candidates who have appeared or are appearing at the qualifying Examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main
subject and expect to pass the Examination with the required percentage of marks are also eligible to apply and appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination. However, their candidature will be considered only if they provide documentary evidence of having passed the qualifying Examination with the required subjects and percentage of marks.
SYALLABUS & EXAM PATTERN
The exam will be in pen and paper mode. The question papers will be in 13 regional languages including Tamil, English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Telugu and Urdu. The total numbers of questions are 200 in which 180 must be answered in 180 minutes. The question paper is divided into 4 sections with Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. From each section 50 questions will be asked. In that first 35 questions are compulsory and from last 15, 10 questions must be answered with 5 optional. The total mark of the exam is 720. Each correct answer is carry's 4 marks and for each wrong answer 1 mark will be reduced. Basic knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology is mandatory to crack the exam. Questions will be from higher secondary syllabus.

The total number of medical colleges in India that offering MBBS courses are 595. In which 302 are Government and 218 are private medical colleges and there are 47 Deemed universities and 3 Central universities that offer MBBS course. The total number of MBBS admission through NEET is 89,395 (Government medical colleges including of AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, ESIC - 44555, Private and Deemed medical colleges - 43815 and Deemed Universities - 8050). Number of BDS through NEET is 27948 of BDS, 52520 of AYUSH, 603 of BVSC & AH.
On the other hand, for the remaining 85% of the MBBS / BDS seats, the respective state NEET counselling bodies will do the seat allotment separately. Soon after the release of AIR list, a state level merit list released by the state authority. Based on the merit list the seats will be filled. Students has to apply separately for the state quota. Reservation under the state quota will be vary state to state. Recently Tamil Nadu Government has approved 7.5% reservation for government schools' students who studied in government school from 6th grade to 12th grade for MBBS/BDS admission.
